To read more about this Bill, there's a full article over on Oh No They Didn't-Political, which can be found here.

If you can, please contact your House Representative. If you don't know their number, there's a page on Tumblr that will connect you to them. There's also a link entitled, "Email them", where you can sign the petition.

DemandProgress.org had a petition going, but they turned it in to Congress yesterday--while standing alongside Congressmembers Zoe Lofgren and Darrell Issa... with well over 500,000 signatures.

This bill is holding hearings today. Do you realize what will happen if this passes? Take a second and think about what this means to you on a national level; on a personal level; on an interpersonal...hell, even in regards to something like a fandom.. This bill is big, guys. :(

Edit 11/16; 5:15PM: If this Bill passes, here are some sites that could potentially be blocked off to the American people:

-Facebook
-Livejournal
-Twitter
-The Pirate Bay
-Megaupload
-Megavideo
-Mediafire
-Wordpress
-Almost any forum site
-Tumblr

...Well, that's nice. :|

Well that is just fucked up. :-/ For gawds sake, USA!!! STOP being such a fucking world police! :-/ You are NOT the greatest country in the world! Your laws are NOT the best! Other countries DO exist, thank you! Now leave the rest of the world the FUCK alone! *pissed*

Edit to clarify: It is the government and the policicians I am pissed at. NOT the US-people. Really. You should all know me better than that.

Insanity!!!

Apparently Obama will veto the bill if it comes to that. (http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/192349-obama-threatens-to-veto-resolution-repealing-net-neutrality-rules)

Everything will be. :/

I remember back when I was about to leave school, & was looking around at colleges, one of the subjects I was looking at was politics, & a teacher at one of the colleges I looked at was telling bits of politics-related trivia to try & interest me in the course. One of the things was that the British prime minister has more individual power than the US president. But clever marketing & America's international influence means everyone assumes the US president can just snap his fingers & do anything, so if something happen then it must be all his fault.

Well, Hollywood sure helps with establishing that fact, doesn't it? *disgusted*

We're not the best, no, but our country is still pretty fucking good. We're taking care of protesting, thanks, and honestly, that last part offends me. Check the number of sigs on the petition and hold off slamming the USA.

True. US is a pretty cool country. I've lived there, remember? Londonderry, New Hampshire. With an army-family no less. (Visited West Point to.)

But just because I like the people of the US, doesn't mean I can be fucking disgusted with the government and the politics from the same country. :-/

I was even told by an army-wife I once had on my f-list that it would be a good thing for the US to just invade Europe and rule it... Since you know... the countries here don't mean anything anyway.

To say I threw her off my f-list pretty fucking quick would be an understatement.

Sorry if that offends you, but that is how I feel. This is what I see in Sweden of your country. In the news. In the papers. Every. Single. Day.

Thank gawd I have US-people on my f-list that has some common sense and are nice people... Because otherwise I'd end up like sooooooo many others here... Loving the Hollywood movies... and hating everything about the country... all of it. At least I don't do that.

You can feel and post anything you want, but if you open it to comments, I'm going to say what I want to say too. You have every right to feel that way, and I have every right to not like what you say. But you do not live here now, and what you see in papers or even on the internet is hugely skewed.

90% of the American people have literally NOTHING to do with the laws that are passed, or bills that come to a vote. We do not send our military to war, we do not impose our will on other countries. And I'm sorry, but those last words were an indictment of all of the US, not our leaders. Being lumped in with the masses and being labeled as ignorant and 'thinking we're the best' rubbed me the wrong way, and I'm not sorry it does. I wouldn't think of bashing your country, sorry you think its okay to bash mine.

Oh, you can bash Sweden if you want. :-) I know our history pretty well. ;-) Let us just not start talking about where Hitler got his ideas... or where Göring saw the swastika for the first time.... and we helped the Nazis invade Norway by letting them travel through our country... :-P My grandpa was in the army back then and traded ciggerattes with the Nazis. Sweden as a country is far far far from innocent. Trust me. There is a lot of shit you can digg up if you want to. Modern history to.

Of course what I see in the papers and on the news is skewed. Of course it is. *shrug* I am just saying it is there, this is what is reported. :-P Hell, you probably see skewed things about Sweden in the US news to. If reporters and journalists even find this little country important enough to report from.

Anyway, again. I am NOT bashing the people. I am not. I love the US-people. I do. Really, I do. I have some really awesome friends from the US. Yourself included. But I do not like the politics. I don't. The "we're the best"-thing is what is seen here. Honest. I am not making this up. :-/ And I would say that it is the government that many here think about when saying that, even if, unfortunately, a lot of swedes at least, lump the people in in that statement as well. I don't. I repeat: I don't.

So yeah, I know that the US-people have nothing to do with that. I know. It is the government and the politicians I have a problem with.

I'm sorry, I probably overreacted and of all the people I would love to fight with, you are last on the list. <3

I often wish the US didn't do the things it does, and I know we have a bad world rap - it's just hard to be part of the masses that sit here with our mouths open while Congress does stupid shit. I think that despite our flaws, we're still one of the best places in the world to live, but I guess until I live in another country, I'm a little biased.

Thanks for not just yelling at me back.

I'd say you are pretty damn biased. ;-) But that's how it is, isn't it?

I'll not start on other politics I have a problem with in the US then. ;-) *grin* But as always, it is never EVER the people I have a problem with! Never ever... It is the leaders and quite a few of the laws... (Not all, mind.)

It is OK to over-react. Hell even to disagree! Not everyone can have the same opinions and views. Gawd damn, our world would be boring then... o.O Sure, a bit more peaceful perhaps, but I am off the firm belief that it would not be a good thing.

And why would I yell back? :-) Much better going down the Eminem-route and point out your own flaws. Because damn, are there flaws here to. X-D At least our politicians aren't sending our army to rule over another country. ;-) As far as I know... And if they do? They must have done it DAMN sneakily! *lol*

I don't think you are alone in this. :-P *hugs*
That bill would never ever actually pass here
I sincerely hope so. Because it is really fucked up that it even got up for discussion and got suggested. :-/
a lot of things get suggested, usually by very far left or right people who are looking for something in the middle to pass. there isn't anything wrong with discussing options as long as it doesn't affect our lives: trying to talk about thing and suggesting options is how things change in the first place, and sometimes things do need to change. the point of this bill is probably to either get the american people really riled up, or to do some sort of thing that isn't as extreme as this.
Yeah, but still.... Still. This would effect so, so many. On such a fundamental level. It would put a hold on your freedom of speech. And I know you US-people hold that very dear to your heart. As you should.
we do! but that's just why this bill would never pass in a million years.
The bill isn't about far right or far left discussing options, its about industry lobbyist trying to legislate profit retention by protecting IP.

The internet is changing who profits from content, and everyone is trying to protect their piece. On one hand, I do believe that old ways are not sustainable, and policing the internet is a futile task. On the other hand, IP law is intended to protect and incentivize innovation, which is a critical part of the economy.

I can sympathize with this view since I plan on generating IP at some point in the future.
