My personal opinion of them two bands: One Direction and Big Time Rush.

I am just gonna get this out and get it out here. I apparently have saddened a friend, and even though I am blunt and everyone knows it... it makes me a bit sad everytime it happens.

So rant. Here. Hang on to your hats. This might get ugly. But it is MY opinion. And I am entitled to have one to, right?

I feel flooded. And damn lonely. :-/ Why? Because this last month, two last months? Something like that... My flist, my tweet-list, my plurk-list, my tumbler-dash... it is OVER-RUN with One Direction and Big Time Rush. It's like a damn plague. Everywhere. Just... everywhere... these boys, that to me... is damn annoying.

Now, I am sure they are nice and friendly to everyone and supportive to great causes and all that.

But me? I REALLY dislike their music. I sure as hell don't see anything cute or pretty or sexy with any of them. I've checked them out, oh yes. I have no choice, now do I? Since I get flooded from left and right. I've even done Google-searches to try and find out what the hell it IS with these boys... Still. No. I've listened to their music. I've looked at photo-shoots and gifs. I've checked out music-vids and interviews.

Still. No. HELLS to the noes!

And apparently... I am alone in feeling like this. And it's like you are SUPPOSED to fall for them as soon as you see them.

Now... this plague and fan-movement reminds me of something else... Bare with me. I am kinda old... well, at least not young.

New Kids on the Block? Anyone remember them? Yes? No? This fanmovement going on right now reminds me A LOT of the fans of NKOTB back then. If you didn't like NKOTB back then, you were strange and usually got bullied for it. (School-years, bullying happened for much.)

And then there were all the bands that followed in NKOTB's wake. Anyone remember them today? Take That? Backstreet Boys? East 17? Five? Boyzone? Westlife? 'N Sync? Bros? Wet Wet Wet? No Mercy?

They all still make music. But they are far FAR from their old glory. Still, the insane flame that runs around, the plague around One Direction and Big Time Rush reminds me a lot of these bands. Even their music reminds me a lot of some of the above mentioned bands. And not in a good way. It's like someone took NKOTB, dusted them off, put on a new suit and presented them again. *shakes head*

Aaaaaand I'll probably lose friends over this... :-P And if you wanna filter your posts, be my guest. Do so. But I hope I can still read about YOU. Because if I friended YOU it is YOU I am interested in and wanna read about.

Enjoy your new fandom, people. Just don't force me into it.

Well, not everyone has to like them ;) I just couldn't not like them. I started watching Big Time Rush - the show, and it was funny and different with (to me) cute boys and I was just instantly in love. Their music is the kind I used to listen to in my teenage years (huge Backstreet Boys fan, here ;D), so... yeah. It may not be the best or most original music but I like it.

I didn't want to get into One Direction either; it annoyed me too, when everyone suddenly started liking them and I didn't even know who they were or where they suddenly came from, but then I looked at a few of the slashy, cuddly gifs and I got interested and... yeah! The rest is history. *g*

But you seem to like different music in the first place and this boyband music is definitely not something everyone likes, so... yeah! It's understandable that some people are just not into it :)

It is fine to like them. IT IS! But sometimes, I feel pushed that I have to like them too because everyone else does. And that makes me feel both lonely and slightly uncomfortable, you know?

And yeah, my music-taste is not... there... *lol* That Tokio Hotel's music appealed to me is quite funny, when you think about it. But I believe it is because they have a raw nerve in their music, that is still there after all these years and all the changes they've gone through. :-)

I listen to old heavy rock, mostly. I love the new work Slash has done (just, guh!) and also the old music of Guns'N'Roses. I really really enjoy Mötley Crüe (and I fangirl over them on Twitter! They are NUTS them four old men!), I definitely enjoy Nickelback as well...

And... well, see? Old rocker-chick. *lol*

I didn't mean plague, as in it's a disease. It was just a saying to try and describe how quickly it has spread, you know? Wildfire would have worked to, I suppose. :-P

I am not saying they are bad. Bad people in anyway. Or that it is wrong to like them. It's just that sometimes I feel cornered. Like I HAVE to like them to! Pushed into it. And that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable at times. Not to mention lonely. :-P Like I can't say anything, because I get shoot down and is per automatic wrong. I am not sure if I get across what I mean, but I hope I do. :-P

You can't exactly help whose music and stuff you like or don't like, fall or don't fall for. Is someone actually faulting you over not jumping on the 1D and/or BTR bandwagon?

It has happened twice. No names will be given or times, just that it was a while ago. Wasn't fun. Not to mention the overall feeling that you can't say anything against them, because if you do you are per automatic wrong. I feel cornered and pushed into having to like them to. I don't think them boys are bad people in ANY WAY. It's just... the way it has spread... and the push for everyone to fall for them. :-/ You like Tokio Hotel, you should like these bands to. WHAT? They have nothing to do with one another, but that is the feeling I am getting right now. And that makes me uncomfortable. And lonely.

The whole 'you like TH therefore you should like 1D and BTR' thing makes no sense. That's like saying if you like rock music you should like every rock band out there.

Yeah, you've made yourself a social pariah now. You'll be filtered, ignored, and whatever else. It's just the nature of going against the grain. And I like your NKOTB comparison because I was exactly like that too. And with BSB.

But you've got more important things to do than all this, and that's far more exciting :D

Yeah, it is quite easy to compare to NKOTB, isn't it? The fandom is VERY alike, I'd say. Even if we didn't have the internet back then. No, I wasn't a fan. But officially I was. Because if I wasn't, I would be bullied even worse at school, and I had a tough time off it anyway. So I pretended.

Not gonna pretend now though. I am to old for that. :-)

thank you. hahaha. maybe i'm just too old for boy bands? i just don't see the appeal. plus, they're babies. at least all of TH has been legal for a few years. i don't like the poppy music either.

yes, but they had a show on nickelodeon. i just can't see the perv appeal in something my 5y/o son watched.

One Direction and The Wanted, fuckin everywhere. I was a teenager during the NKOTB years and it's a lot like that all over again.

It's also like me and Glee. Fuck I hate it, and it's everywhere. Y'all have fun, I'm staying in my little fandom bubble with TH, AFI, Lostprophets and the rest.

I see my NKOTB comparison was well recived though... I was a young teen back then to. It was nuts. I had to pretend to like them to make sure I wasn't bullied even worse in school then I already was. :-P The crazyness.

I couldn't agree more! And yes, I remember those boybands ( I guess that is why can't stand when somebody calls TH for a boy band, it's so, so far from this!)

It is the raw nerve that Tokio Hotel still has that kinda puts them apart from all them boybands, I'd say. My personal opinion, of course. But it was that nerve that pulled me in. And their different personalities.

I don't get that either. I really don't. I am all just... wait, what? And I try to ignore it, but really... and I can take a lot. But after awhile, even I get annoyed, you know?

Yeah, I really do understand you. I have such a short f-list, so I haven't been really botherd by it, and at Facebook is it mostly 30 seconds to Mars that some of my firends are crazy about, but it doesn't bother me at all, doesn't feel like the same.

Yeah the raw nerve and that they are true to themself, they are real musicans, doing real music, but from a very early age.

I've seen them mentioned randomly on twitter, not really on LJ or anywhere else. I've never listened to their music and I'm not really jumping for an opportunity either. I'm going to assume they suck and I'd probably dislike them anyways. Lol. But if you lose a friend over your music taste, that's just silly.. ridiculous. =o\

Well, according to me (fans will disagree) they are pretty much the new version of NKOTB, if you remember them. :-P Only more ballads, if my research are correct. :-P

I have yet to lose a friend over it. Maybe my bluntness that I DARED to speak an opinion that wasn't all positive about them. :-/

Oh wow, you brought back fond memories of New Kids on the Block! They were the first boy band I'd ever seen, and I loooooved them -- but it was a secret love because we weren't allowed to listen to that kind of music so if there were any other fans around me we were all fangirling in private. >_> What a huge difference the Internet has made! And how time has changed my taste in music! :D

I am disgustingly honest, as most people know. And I've kept my mouth shut on the matter for quite some time. But you know... patient I might be, but even I have a limit. :-P

omg i had never heard of either of these bands. i've heard of one direction because remember that weekend i went to jersey to visit sara's little sister? her little sister kellianne and her best friend whitney are CRAZY about one direction. we had to be upstairs in front of the tv by 8 p.m because one direction was going to be on i-carly, and then we drove them to the grocery store so they could buy magazines! they were cute i think, and funny enough on i-carly. now kellianne has added the signature 'i <3 one direction' to all of her texts!! hahaha. i remember being like this with sara on the backstreet boys and the smashing pumpkins. i think i only heard one song. reminded me a lot of other boy bands except the opening riff which i could have sworn was from grease.

i really just want you to know that i just skated to sara's house and as soon as i stepped out of my house i heard the only song i know by one direction. someone down the block was having a pool party and blasting that song. how timely
