I watched the Eurovison song contest a few days after the fact it had aired. Because I'm late and slow like that. Or maybe it's just my life is just so stressful. :-P

Anyway, I've watched both semi-finals and the final as well, and I have to say... Even though the winning song was special, to me it was just another ballad. :-P And I'm so sick of ballads, to be honest. Also, he was a bit of an ass there at the end, pretty much saying only his song could be counted as ‘real’ music. WFT, dude? :-/

There were others though that caught my attention. Others that were actually… Good. Which never happens in the Eurovision Song Contest. *LOL* It’s supposed to be kitschy and bad, but these were good!

Cyprus song Gravity had a surprisingly nice beat! One of those that get stuck in the head. At least on me. :-D Stage show was pretty neat to!

Hungary also had a nice stage show. With the barefooted romani girl and the singer singing in romani according to his heritage. I have a lot of romani students at the school I work, so this did struck a chord with me. Because they don’t really have a role model. A shame he didn’t win. I don’t know romani, but I still really liked the song.

Norway also surprised me with a pretty good song! Again with the beat. I do like a song with a good beat, apparently. And they looked cool on stage to, with the masked men doing the music. Yep, one of my favorites for sure, and not only for being my neighboring country. :-)

Azerbaijan’s song really got me to sit up and pay attention. Not so much for the weird stage show (man with a horsehead on a ladder, what?), but for the really nice song! I like her voice and also the chanting in this song. The text is kinda cool to. So this was a nice surprise really. :-D

This song from Belgium though… My ABSOLUTE favorite! THAT VOICE! Breathless and just a little bit hoarse… And the way she either look/sound terrified or desperate… It really works! I really really enjoyed this and can clearly see myself going back to listen to it again. SO NICE!

The most fun song that just makes me smile, because it’s happy and a little silly and… Well, it just makes me smile is Romania’s song. :-D Yodel it! It might be the sillier songs this year, but dammit… The way that girl is yodeling? That is NOT easy! So, silly song with a lot of skill behind it! :-D

And that concludes my Eurovision thoughts for this year. :-) Well, let’s finish it with the song from Sweden to, maybe? Have to be a lil bit patriotic, right? ;-)

I absolutely loved Sweden's song. My students picked Belgium to win, with France a close second. Now I have to listen to Sweden's song again.
