So... I've just finished watching Game of Thrones season 5. And although I have some thoughts on it, the main surprise and disappointment was... 'Wait? They're not killing of anyone else? Where's the gore and death???' Yes, I'm a weirdo. Get used to it. But considering the Red Wedding during season 3, I mean... Is it a wonder?
Not sure where to begin and this is probably... very random and not very structured, but here goes.
There were a few things I did not expect. Jon Snow, wtf? Yeah, he wasn't the most popular on the block, but really? Again it comes to show that no one is sacred. I wonder if the creators and GRR Martin
grrm (the man got an LJ! how awesome is that?) is planning to kill off all the Starks? I do wonder... I can't say Jon didn't have it coming what with breaking exactly ALL the traditions and everything. But SERIOUSLY! I do so hate Thorne. So not happy about him probably ending the new Lord Commander. Dammit.
Sam though, a sweet Sam... I hope he'll end up the Maester he wants to be. I'm sure he will. With the support of Ginny and little Sam. :-)
Talking of Starks. There's Arya. I really like what they are doing with that character. Totally rooting for her to be a kick ass assassin. A no one. And then she had to go ruin it for herself, even if Meryn had it coming. The last scene for her was really creepy and so so so well done! Gonna be interesting to see what that all means.
And of course... Not all Starks are gone. There's Bran to. But we haven't seen him this season. Wonder why...? ;-)
OH! Sansa! I forgot about Sansa Stark. But hey, dude. There's a lady I used to want to slap hard in the face to make sure you woke up from her silly daydreaming. As the series have progressed I just ache for her. She is just used for her name. Nothing else. And to put her in the hands of the Boltons, now that's just cruel. I do like Ramsey, weirdly enough. He is so unapologetically cruel. Not giving a fuck really. Honest about his cruelty. I loved the interactions between Sansa and Theon. I really did. Theon so so so broken and Sansa getting there the longer she stays with Ramsey. I think Theon finally snapped enough to help her because he saw himself the way he was in the beginning under the hand of Ramsey. My own theory. :-) Let's hope they survived their jump.
Not going to go through all the characters really, but a few more...
I must say Daenerys and Tyrion was not a team-up I'd expected, but the second to last episode sure changed my mind about that. Oh my gosh, they'll be dangerous together! I so approve! And I hope they'll end up not only colleagues / business partners, but also friends eventually. Add Varys to the mix, and things SURE will be interesting...
Also wondering how the Dothraki feel about her. It could go either way there.
And back to the Lannisters. I FEEL SORRY FOR JAMIE! Last season and this and he is really becoming a favorite of mine, following his brother close behind. And to think I hated him in the beginning of this show. And to FINALLY be able to tell one of his children he is her father... and then have her die in his arms. Harsh. Damn harsh.
I did not feel sorry for Cersei though. I know a lot do, but holy fuck... Did she have that coming? Yeah, it's a harsh punishment. But considering what she's done if you look back through the seasons? Yeah... It was beautifully played though, so all hail the actors! Especially Lena Headey playing Cersei!
So all in all, I did enjoy it obviously. But it was a lot more slow phased than I'd expected. And not as many deaths as I'd expected. Right then. Onwards to season 6! I'll be paying up for HBO Nordic so I can see season 6 as soon as it airs! Addicted? Just a bit. X-D

Date: 2016-03-27 02:28 am (UTC)I remember the first season, I hated almost all of the female characters when it started and by the end I was like "wait, these women are amazing!"
And now, going into this 6th season we have such layered characters. Even Cersei, who makes my skin crawl when I think of her actions, you just want to know what will happen with her. And Sansa, who was so naive and now she gets it, she has learned to play the game and now that she has escaped (oh gods I hope she has!) I want her to start taking down these awful men.
I'm not sure what is going to happen to Dany. I have been rooting for her but then I remember how INSANE everyone else in her family has been and I get scared that she may turn out to be the villain before it all ends.
I thought Arya would save us all but now I'm not so sure what will be her fate.
GAH THIS SHOW! It has some missteps, I can't deny that, but it manages to keep me on the edge of my seat and every time the end credits start, I usually make an audible "NO!!" sound because waiting a week between episodes...and then a YEAR to know more...it's so painful!

My understanding is that this season will examine why the war started - which should have gore aplenty.
