My poor baby cat...

If you follow my Twitter, you might have seen me tweet about how worried I was for my baby last night.

Around 11pm yesterday Verdandi started growling and hissing out of nowhere. Now, both off our cats are very silent. They might mew silently now and then, but very seldom and just to let us now that 'Hello! I am here! Pet me?'. So when Verdandi started growling and hissing (something I've never heard her do), I figured something was really wrong, and my heart jumped up my throat.

Sitting down on the floor I talked to her and petted her and tried to figure out what was wrong... She continued to growl and hiss at me. Wanting to keep my skin firmly in place, I was quite careful. Our cats have all the claws left (I am firmly against de-clawing or cutting the claws of cats), so if she got pissed enough at me, there would be blood...

Since Skuld and Verdandi are indoor cats, I couldn't figure out what she could have done? I mean, we've made sure our apartment is very VERY cat-friendly. Carefully feeling over Verdandi, it was clear the front of her body was not a problem. She got nuts when I touched the back of her body, but I couldn't figure out if it was her legs or her stomach...

Cue me being worried as hell until [livejournal.com profile] peting73 came home. When he did, we both talked and cooed over Verdandi trying to figure out what was wrong using both our brains. It seemed as one of her hind legs was the problem... And when we urged her to move, we saw a slight limp.

Right. So today our girl has been to the vets for a check up. I was nervous as hell until she got home. Apparently she'd somehow pulled a muscle, straining it. o.O I didn't even know cats could DO that! Especially not an indoor cat who doesn't move around quite as much as an outdoor cat... So now she got painkillers especially for cats that will also prevent any swelling. And she is doing much better, even if she doesn't wanna move around much, and goes all hissing and growling if one tries to pick her up. I am mostly leaving her alone, so she can rest.

Typically enough this happened on the busiest day of the week for me. :-P I worked from 8-12am at one library and then 2pm-6pm at another library. *head-desk* Luckily [livejournal.com profile] peting73 didn't start work until 1pm, so he could take Verdandi to the vet... Safe to say though, I was very distracted at work today.... I might not write about my dear darling cats Skuld and Verdandi often, but they are seriously my babies... I love them to death and was so, so worried about Verdandi today. When I got home for some lunch mid-day today, [livejournal.com profile] peting73 was off to the vet with Verdandi, leaving Skuld home alone when I got there... She was totally confused. She has never been without her sister and clearly missed her even that short amount of time. So I took some extra time cuddling Skuld today... She is usually more attached to [livejournal.com profile] peting73, but I guess today I was sufficient. :-)

Gawd I love them two black furballs... *sniff*

Verdandi showing off her fat belly...

Verdandi has this weird thing for the kitchen sink...

Verdandi also has a weird thing for shoes... That would be my red Docs she is trying to fit her head into...

Now Skuld ain't much more normal... She has a weird thing for feet... Especially [livejournal.com profile] peting73s feet. Either when they are smelly and disgusting from work... or right out of the shower. She acts like an addict just getting her fix... It is nuts. I should videotape it one of these days...

Verdandi (left) and Skuld (right) on one of their ventures outside. We don't take them out often, since they seem to find it frightening. They like it to, I think, but they are on constant guard and the smallest sound scare them. Plus, they don't like walking in a leash. They do stick damn close to each other though when they walk around exploring all the stuff and smelling everything... And if their sister gets to far away from them... RUN TO CATCH HER! DO NOT WANT TO BE ALONE! I usually have Verdandi's leash and [livejournal.com profile] peting73 Skulds. And we let them lead where to go, which can turn quite interesting sometimes! I like this photo of them exploring a bush. I have it as my background on my smartphone. :-)

Oh poor kitty! :O I am so sorry the poor thing is injured! Isn't that the worst feeling in the world, knowing they're in pain, but they can't tell you what's wrong? So you go out of your mind with worry until you get them to the vet. I'm so glad it's just a strained muscle!

Also, the kitties are GORGEOUS! SO beautiful and shiny! <3 I really want to rub the belly in the first pic! Kitty belly! The feet thing is adorable. There's no explanation for why pets like the craziest things! ^__^ I DO understand the obsession with shoes! Your babies are so beautiful, and I'm really glad Verdandi will be okay!

Yeah, I was really really worried with her when she just kept growling and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I was afraid she'd eaten something! Gladly that wasn't the case.

Verdandi is doing so much better now. :-) Taking her meds like a champ (although she makes it clear she doesn't like it) and limping less. I think she'll heal fine.

Eirie... o.O They look just like Skuld and Verdandi! o.O Although, I think your cats are less fat... *lol* ;-)

Cool that you know where my girls names are from! :-D Not that many that are that familier with Norse Myth and Lore. ;-)

LOL. Nuala loves to display her enormous belly just like Verdandi xD

I don't have a good pic of her doing it or I'd post, it's SO ridiculous looking with her sprawled in the sunbeam going "DIS IS MAH BELLEH!! U GOTS PROBLEM??"

Macha's quite skinnier than she should be right now; her bloodwork came back all normal, no FIV/FIP/FeLV, so we have to find out more.

They've been sleeping on me every night since I've come home from hosp. Little nurselings!

X-D That is just the way Verdandi does it! I was just lucky I managed to snap a shot of it. *lol*

Cats are awesome like that though... They are very very loving, although not like a dog who are just all over your face and nearly smoother you... Cats just ARE. :-) And that's why they are awesome. It is so sweet that they know you are not totally OK and want to show that they care. Little nurselings indeed. :-) *hugs*

The first two cats that I grew up with looked just like Skuld and Verdandi... It is eerie really... Although Pyret and Ida (as they were called) where much, much tougher outdoor cats who had quite a big turf that they defended... quite violently at times. Once home though, they were the cuddliest things you could ever imagine. They let me and my brother do anything with them, dress them up in doll-clothing and put them in doll-beds and stuff. :-)

Awww, poor thing. A cat with a pulled muscle ... I did that last year and it wasn't fun. Tell Verdandi I sympathize. They are both so beautiful! I love cats but I'm allergic to them :`(

Maybe he's a lazy cat and his muscles are revolting. I know ... all cats are lazy. ;)

All cats are lazy indeed. More or less. :-) She is doing much better now though, so I guess that was indeed all she did. The silly cat. :-P

Ouch, poor kitty! D: Glad to hear she's on her way to getting better. They are really pretty, both of them!

One of the front paws of my Duchess swelled up one morning a couple of months back, and I was as baffled as you, due to her being an indoor cat too. She didn't seem to be in any pain (didn't say a word when I was poking around the swollen paw), but she was limping, so I took her to vet where they put her on a similar medicine for a week. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her and guessed she must have sprained her ankle or something. ...But it does seem odd she wasn't hissing, hearing your story. Whatever it was, it was pretty much gone the next day though, so it couldn't have been anything serious.

But still, as you say, you don't expect stuff like that to happen to an indoor cat! @.@

(Glad to see things are going well for you with work, even though that was quite a long day!)

Oh, I'll have a worse day next week... (8am-12am then 4pm-8pm... o.O)

Yeah, I was just looking at the cat when she got home and [livejournal.com profile] peting73 told me what the Vet had said... and I just looked at Verdandi going... 'How did you managed to DO that?!?!?!' Cats. They are special. :-P

Good to hear it wasn't anything to serious with Duchess either. o.O I've seen photos of that cat. She is a true beauty. Pure breed, right? Our cats are... just your everyday farm-cats. And overweight. *lol* I am seriously considering putting them on a diet.

Yeah, I did freak out somewhat. As you say, they can't really tell me what is wrong... Well, at least not in a way I understand... So I could only fret and worry over the poor cat, until she got help. The vet-station here is really, really good though. :-) More like a animal hospital, really. So she got good help, gladly.
