This is KSena

Usually a friendly sort. Be nice to me, and I am nice to you. Here I ramble on about me, life, work and fandoms. I am a fan of Robin of Sherwood, Xena: Warrior Princess, Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tokio Hotel and Sons of Anarchy. I don't apologize for anything I write here. This is my mind. And you entered it. Welcome.

Since I was watching Jesus Christ Superstar, and during Easter I watched Last passion of the Christ, I been thinking. And no. I didn't turn into a believer on your ass. Honestly. What do you think of me?*snicker* I just have a thing for biblical stories. Because they are pretty awesome stories, really. Fantastical even. And people complain with fantasy-readers that they are reading fantasy... The Bible it self is one big fantasy-story to me. :-) Don't shoot me now. You wanna believe in it, that is fine. That is just my view of said book.

I must say Andrew Lloyd Webber sure got some balls to do a musical about Jesus. I checked the extra materials on the Jesus Christ Superstar DVD when i watched it the other day. Apparently it was quite a riot about it during the 70's when it first started to play... Was interesting to see. Even more interesting is that said musical was running that long! They showed pictures from the 25th anniversary! I think it was running a few more years then that. Quite amazing.

And then there is Last passion of the Christ. Lets see... what does said movie have to do with said musical? Both caused an uproar, they did. And both doesn't turn away from the ugliness that is written in the bible. They do it in different ways, for sure. Lots of torture and blood in the Passion. And in Superstar, lots of human weaknesses in Jesus. Not to forget that Judas is freaking HOT in Superstar! But that might be my weakness for broody black dressed rocker men...

Gah! I got music on the brain! And I do mean Jesus Christ Superstar. The music is stuck in my head. Bah. I can not get it out!!!*goes mental* Hence the long entry...

I just happened to be in a Catholic grammar school when J.C. Superstar (as it was known) premiered. It was an interesting place to be. The old nuns were horrified, the young priests were all for it.

Personally, I thought it was a bit overblown as is all of Webber's stuff but, I did love the way they portrayed King Herod as a funny comedic type. There was one great line I'll never forget. Herod's interrogating Jesus and sings,

"Prove to me that you're no fool.
Walk across my swimming pool."

The teachers were all for it in my Catholic school but there was a boatload of hippie teachers. My cousin fangirled Tim Neeley like whoa.

Now when Godspell happened, there seemed to be more rumblings (though my school used the album as part of both the music and religion classes at the time). People were more up in arms about a Jewfro-wearing guy in a Superman t-shirt. plaid pants and Keds with pompoms on them playing a Christ figure than they were about a long-haired guy in a robe playing teh Christ.

I have never heard about Godspell... Had to look it up on IMDB. :-P Seems to be a sillier version of JCS? Or am I wrong?

I actually like Webber. Not all of them, but I mean... There is a reason for his success. He is not bad at what he does. So most of his stuff that I like.

I can imagine being among nuns and priests during that time must have been mighty intresting. :-)

King Herod rocks, yes. But in the movie version I must say my to favorites must be Judas and Pontius Pilate. :-) Espcecially Pilate, since his voice when he sang made me shiver. THIS (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275434/) is the version I have at home. :-)
