Beware of pissed off rant about possible LJ-changes....

I was going to post about my LARP-character today, but I am just to upset and pissed off to do just that...


I don't know if the rest of my pretty LJ-friends have seen this, but there has been some very intresting (not to mention idiotic) news thats been posted in lj_biz (smart move that, so not all might see it... Must friend that comm...). Thanx sueworld2003 for otherwise I would have missed it totally. I haven't read all, so if I am wrong in anything here, sorry. I am just... very upset about all this.

Apperently there will be sponsord communites, as the next new thing on LJ where companies can have commercials for there products, or for there movies or whatever. Kinda like these MySpace once (yes, I have a MySpace to. Shot me.): World of Warcraft on MySpace, PotC: Dead Mans Chest on MySpace, X-MEN III on MySpace. They have already launched the first sponsored community here on LJ, and when comparing it to the once from MySpace, the similaritys are many. Compare yourself: scienceofsleep - community for the movie Science of Sleep. Only difference between a regular community and the sponsord once would be the shitload of adds on a sponsord one, is that if your not a paid user, or have made it clear on your options on your basic account, you'll see a shitload of adds on them... Thanx, but no thanx. This is just to much. THIS is turning LJ more and more to MySpace, me thinks. They say they do it to give more options and possibilities to us, the users. But really, I am quite happy with how it is now, I don't need more options. If one reads the comments on the posts about this, it is hard to find anything positive. Nearly everhone is negative. And why shouldn't they be? It is the users that make LJ what it is. And if the PTB is not careful, the users might move somewhere else. Me, I am going to download my entire journal to my comp, and make a GreatestJournal under this name, since it seems like most on my F-list has made backup journals there. If I see one, just one add on my journal, I am moving. End of story.

My dear friend japewierd is much better at things like this to make odds and ends off what they really are saying, so I suggest you go read on her post about it HERE and the answer she has written to the comments as well, since she is much better at clarifying stuff like this, at least to me.

I doubt we have seen the end of all this. Let the story continue...

I agree, thanks but no thanks. If recieving more options means having my pages littered with adverts then I will gladly pass on the extra options.

I think if LJ goes through with this in it's fullest then they are bound to loose useres. A lot of people are turned off of myspace because of these things, people will react the same way here as well and find somewhere else to move their work to.

It is.... Extremly confussing, I agree. Been reading a bit more about it today, and it seems like paid users and free users would get an option to turn the adds off or something like that.... I don't know. I just got a bad feeling about it all. Still pissed off about it. LJ has become my second home, and I really, really don't wanna leave, but what the do you do, eh? :-(

Anyway, welcome here, if you plan to stay. And might I add what a gloriously evul Vamp-Willow you play. :-)

I'm confused. I'm not sure I get the big idea but as long as LJ actually doens't /force/ ads on people... Sponsored communities, sponsored accounts; does it really matter if no one who dislikes ads etc never surfs them? I'm not about to join a community heavy on ads, or surf anyone's journal that has banners. So, it shouldn't bother me (even if I am logged out)?

Your confussed, I'm confussed. I am both pissed off and confussed as all hell. Aperently you can, as a paid user and a free user, turn the option of seeing ads off. If your logged in that is. I am not sure. There is soooo much written about it. Tried to read up on it some more, but... It is confussing. I think they got it that a HUGE deal of users didn't like it. If you surf on to another journal, especially the once that has adds already, you will see them. How it is going to work with these new kinds of communities I have no idea. A good thing to keep in mind is to keep staying logged in, I guess...

I will move though, if push comes to show, and LJ turns into a new MySpace. That is not what I look for here.
