Midsummer. Taking turns every year would make sense. It's not fair to you guys to always be the ones traveling. And even if his friend's wife doesn't budge on the 'no visiting' bit, I still don't think you'd be wrong to keep it to every second year if you want to enjoy the activities and have Alexandra at least try them to decide for herself when she's older if she wants to take part.
