Let's just say that them Invisible Children INC behind Kony 2012 were some REALLY fishy people... *cough* But with the spread of retweets/replurks/reblogs, that spread like wildfire, and they probably made a lot of money from that. :-P
Better with a more hands on approach, for sure. And to give money to charities THAT YOU TRUST! AND HAVE CHECKED OUT!
