Beware Internetz... Mom's got access...
Good grief. The world is coming to end.
My mom was afraid of computers before. I am not joking. But as an assistant nurse she was finally forced to use them, since most off the medical records was... on a computer. So, she went to a short introduction course (that she hated, since she didn't get along with the teacher). It did help her get over a bit off her fear though. After that, she worked on the computers at work. Little by little her fear melted away. Then she was sacked after working there for 20-25 years. (Long story that.) Then, just like me, she started to look for a new job. Not depressed she threw herself head-first in. Finding a job-coach she got a lot off help. And discovered that most things that you need to do when your unemployed today, you need to do... on a computer. On the internet. So, after thinking about it for almost a year she finally took the plunge this weekend... and bought herself a laptop, a printer and mobile access to the internet.
When she told me and
peting73 about her plan during our Christmas-visit, she made damn sure we were sitting down. And a good thing that was to, since she really shocked us. We helped her get her stuff this weekend. A good laptop for her needs (it might be a bit better then she needs, even...She got an ASUS-computer.), but she was happy as a clam! The rest off the weekend we had computer practice here. My mom is a total novice. And I mean it. We had to teach her how to turn the thing on and how to turn it off... Little by little, though, she became more curious and brave. She got an email-address now and have learned how to save bookmarks. She has to keep track off me, Josse and Ella-Bella, of course, on our bloggs. Yeah. Mom isn't that good with english, but she gets most off it. So she might be reading this. *shrug* It is nothing new to her anyway. She knows I am a perv. ;-) *blows kiss to mom* She has bought Windows Office to, so she can use Word, so we thought her that as well, at least the basics. It was such a blast watching mom learning how to use the computer, I must say. She squeeked and giggled! Froze in horror! Asked us if she did something wrong (when in fact she did perfectly fine). Told the computer where to stick it... Etc, etc... Oh, it was hilarious! And in the midst off it all, she learned. And as me and
peting73 told her: There is only one way to get the hang off it, and it is practice, practice, practice. Now she has promised to practice a little bit each day. I will be checking her on that one. ;-)
So, yeah. It has been an interesting and fun weekend. :-D Tomorrow
astroflammante and
tekiila is coming over to stay here until Friday. The apartment is moderately clean. At least I won't have to be embarrassed. ;-)
